Overview

A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. We are looking for an experienced registered nurse to join our Surgical Assessment Unit. The unit accepts patient referrals from GP, walk-in clinics, and WMAS emergency department, covering general surgery, urology, vascular, ENT and Maxillofacial.

Qualifications and Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

• Act in accordance with the NMC Code and be accountable for own practice and professional actions at all times.
• Act as a clinical and professional role model for effective clinical leadership enabling and facilitating others to take forward initiatives.
• Demonstrate clinical practice expertise through personal practice and by leading by example.
• Make informed decisions within own area and scope of professional practice, involving patients and the public to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met.
• Provide exceptional treatment and care to patients throughout their pathway.
• Supervise and support junior colleagues, demonstrating leadership skills in the absence of the Ward Manager. Duties include coordinating, rosters, appraisals, audits and quality assurance checks, and involvement in HR processes.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times, including child protection.
• Effectively communicate clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team, including situations where comprehension may be difficult.
• Work as a competent practitioner, supervising/providing mentorship to a small number of learners or junior staff.
• Coordinate and clinically assess a group of patients, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated, involving patients and carers.
• Participate in observations of care, audits and development of services to improve quality of care.
• Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management, including patient observations, equipment management and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures.

• Manage expected clinical events/enquiries, requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort, referring to a senior staff member where appropriate.
• Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations in the clinical area, including imparting bad news or following unexpected events.
• Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy to protect staff and service users from hazards.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment adhering to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.
