The Mental Health Crisis Intervention Team (MHCIT) is a service for adults aged 18-64 and their families and carers living in Hull and East Riding who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis.

As a Band 7 Clinical Shift Lead within the MHCIT, you'll provide senior clinical oversight and leadership across the 24/7 service. You'll coordinate shift activity, support clinical decision-making, and ensure safe, effective care for individuals in acute mental health distress.

This role is pivotal in maintaining high standards of care, managing risk, and supporting both registered and unregistered staff during complex presentations. You'll work closely with emergency services, community teams, and partner agencies to deliver responsive, person-centred interventions.

We welcome applications from Registered Mental Health Nurses, Registered Learning Disabilities Nurses, and Social Workers with experience in mental health settings. If you're passionate about crisis care, confident in managing risk, and committed to delivering compassionate, person-centred support, we'd love to hear from you.

We are a 24/7, 7 day service therefore the successful candidate will be expected to work a shift pattern including long days, weekends and nights.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide senior oversight of the Section 136 suite, ensuring timely assessments and safe management
  • Support clinical decision-making and risk management for individuals in crisis
  • Supervise and guide registered and unregistered staff, promoting reflective practice and learning
  • Undertake and support complex mental health assessments, including risk formulation and care planning
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical rationale, handovers, and interventions
  • Act as a point of escalation for high-risk or complex cases
  • Liaise with emergency services, community teams, and external agencies to ensure integrated care
  • Contribute to service development, audits, and incident review
  • Promote a culture of safety, compassion, and accountability
