Job Summary

The main objective of the post holder is to contribute to the provision of a timely and efficient Molecular Diagnostics service within the Clinical Genomics Department, both for internal and external cases. The post holder will perform analysis using complex genetics software, report specialised investigations, manage laboratory work, standardise new technologies and assays, and liaise with clinicians, oncologists and histopathologists.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a timely and efficient Molecular Diagnostics service for haematological and solid tumours.
  • Perform complex genetics software analyses and report specialised molecular investigations.
  • Standardise and validate new technologies and tests for molecular diagnostics, including clinical NGS protocols.
  • Supervise junior staff ensuring quality of service provision and compliance with professional standards.
  • Support quality management activities, including compliance with laboratory accreditation standards and training.
  • Contribute to the department’s translational research programme.
  • Take sole responsibility for laboratory work on occasion.
  • Coordinate daily allocation of duties for junior scientists and medical laboratory assistants.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Prioritise work and liaise with service users to coordinate service provision.
Qualifications
  • MSc in a biological science (or equivalent).
  • HCPC state registration or close to registration.
  • Considerable experience in molecular diagnostics service delivery.
