Job description
Overview

Midland Metropolitan University Hospital’s Nuclear Medicine Department requires a State‑Registered Clinical Scientist for a fixed‑term (12‑month) maternity leave coverage.

We only consider applications from candidates who possess or are about to gain HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) State Registration, enabling them to legally act as a Clinical Scientist. Previous applicants need not apply.

The role may suit someone completing the NSHCS Scientific Training Programme in Nuclear Medicine in 2025 and imminently gaining HCPC registration.

The department is equipped with three Siemens Pro.SPECTA x3 SPECT/CT systems, associated processing systems and software, and runs a Krypton gas production service for generators to England and Wales.

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in the department’s equipment quality‑control programme.
  • Support the Principal Clinical Scientist with all scientific aspects of service delivery, including regulatory compliance with radiation protection.
  • Collaborate closely with Clinical Technologists to provide scientific support when required.
  • Provide scientific input during clinical reporting sessions with IRMER‑Licensed Practitioners.
  • Take an active role in the Imaging Optimisation Team to maximise patient benefit from available equipment.
  • Conduct research and development projects with the potential for local and national presentation.
Qualifications and Experience
  • State registration with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist, or imminent acquisition of such registration.
  • Completion or imminent completion of the NSHCS Scientific Training Programme in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Experience in nuclear medicine practice and familiarity with SPECT/CT systems is advantageous.
Working Hours and Flexibility

The department operates Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm. Flexible working arrangements are available to support work/life balance.
