Job Description

Band 8A: £55,690 - £62,682 pro rata, per annum

Full time hours: 37.5 hours per week

The Radiological Sciences Group at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth is seeking an enthusiastic physicist to join a friendly team who provide comprehensive physics support to radiology departments and clinical users of ionising radiation modalities within and outside of Portsmouth.

We are looking to recruit someone who has or is close to holding Medical Physics Expert (diagnostic radiology) certification and/or who has a strong desire to develop their role to become a future Radiation Protection Advisor. A full development plan and support will be provided where required. Candidates should be HCPC registered and have several years of experience working at Band 7 level or equivalent in at least one of these areas: radiation protection (ionizing or non-ionizing) and X-ray physics. The role involves travel to other sites, so a driving licence is essential. Please include a full personal statement in your application detailing relevant experience.

The Medical Physics department in Portsmouth is an accredited training centre, including for Higher Specialist Scientific Training which would provide a future development opportunity for the successful candidate. The group in which you will work also encourages staff to be involved in national professional groups / working parties and to present / publish scientific work in support of their professional development.

Portsmouth is a developing, historic, university seaside city with mild, sunny climate, beaches with many cultural, sporting and leisure amenities.   • BSc in Physics or Physical Science
  • MSc (or equivalent e.g. MPhil) in relevant Medical Physics-related subject
  • Registration with HCPC as Clinical Scientists in Medical Physics
  • Extensive experience and highly specialized knowledge in X-ray physics and/or radiation protection
  • Be on the UK's register for Medical Physics Experts (MPE) or Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA)

Desirable

  • PhD in related subject area
  • Experience of leading and managing teams and projects
  • Track record of presenting scientific papers at conferences/specialist interest groups.

  • Record of publications in peer reviewed journals, specialist publications
