Job summary

Octave Systems Limited is seeking a clinician or experienced clinical operator to oversee safety decisions in automated workflows that touch patient care. The role ensures operational boundaries are clear and routed to the right qualified person.

You will review workflows for clinical touchpoints, define automatic actions and escalation paths, and build acceptance criteria for urgent signals and vulnerable patients.

Qualifications

  • Be a clinician or experienced clinical operator with strong workflow judgement.
  • Ability to distinguish clinical safety from general caution and turn concerns into specific rules or monitoring requirements.
  • Communicate constructively with engineers and operators while maintaining boundaries.
  • Interest in how care is delivered across systems, handoffs, and teams, not just policy on paper.

Responsibilities

  • Review proposed workflows for clinical touchpoints, foreseeable misuse, ambiguous language, and escalation needs.
  • Define boundaries for automatic action, human approval, clinician routing, and hard stops with the clinic's responsible team.
  • Build representative safety scenarios and acceptance criteria for replies, results, urgency signals, vulnerable patients, and uncertain matches.
  • Review patient-facing drafts and templates for clarity, scope, tone, and unintended clinical meaning.
  • Participate in release reviews, incident learning, rule changes, and periodic audits of live workflow behaviour.
  • Help clinic teams understand their role in safe operation, including what to monitor, how to pause, and when to elevate.

Job description

Clinic workflows sit close to clinical decisions even when the work itself is administrative. A patient can reply to a booking message with a symptom, a routine result can need urgent review, and a harmless-looking exception can change the risk entirely.

You will bring clinical reasoning into product and implementation decisions. The role is not to make software practise medicine. It is to make sure the system recognises where operational work ends, stops cleanly, and reaches the right qualified person.

What you will do
  • Review proposed workflows for clinical touchpoints, foreseeable misuse, ambiguous language, and escalation needs.
  • Define boundaries for automatic action, human approval, clinician routing, and hard stops with the clinic's own responsible team.
You will probably thrive here if
  • You are a clinician or experienced clinical operator with strong workflow judgement. Nursing, allied health, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, or clinical governance backgrounds can all be relevant.
  • You can distinguish clinical safety from general caution and turn a concern into a specific rule, test, owner, or monitoring requirement.
  • You communicate constructively with engineers and operators and can hold a boundary without blocking useful work by default.
  • You are interested in how care is actually delivered across systems, handoffs, and teams, not only in policy on paper.
What good looks like
  • Within 30 days, you can explain the safety model of the first workflows and identify the most important evidence gaps.
  • Within 90 days, you have improved acceptance criteria, escalation paths, and team training for a live clinic workflow.
  • Within six months, clinical boundaries are consistent, testable, and easier to review across every new implementation.
