A major healthcare provider in the UK is looking for a Clinical Research Fellow to join their dynamic Rheumatology Team. The successful candidate will work at SpR level, supporting clinical research while developing skills to become a Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include providing clinical expertise and support for outpatient services and clinical trials. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of rheumatology care, with experience in managing autoimmune diseases being highly valued.
Come and join our dynamic department as a Clinical Research Fellow attached to the Rheumatology Team. We are looking for a doctor working at SpR level with Rheumatology and research experience.
The majority of the time in this post is spent supporting and developing clinical research in the Rheumatology Department, working closely with the Rheumatology Research Nurses and the Rheumatology Research Lead.
Provide support to the Rheumatology Department – outpatient clinics, ward referrals and Day Case Unit.
Deliver clinical expertise to the Rheumatology Research Nurses to ensure clinical information on patients in trials is collated in a timely fashion. Support patients while recruiting to clinical trials, obtain consent, collate clinical data and ensure accuracy, thereby increasing recruitment to NIHR portfolio studies.
Attend CRN research fellow development days. The post holder is expected to gain experience to become confident as a Principal Investigator (PI).
Develop clinical skills in the management of patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases, with educational needs tailored to career intentions.
Provide support for outpatient service and inpatient care, integral to the whole rheumatology service. Contribute to the 5‑year goal of excellent care in Rheumatology, including biologics, CTD and fracture liaison services. Specific developmental areas include setting up an Ankylosing Spondylitis service, Rheumatology transition to adulthood and Fracture Liaison services.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the major provider of hospital services to the population of North and Mid‑Hampshire and surrounding areas. The hospitals in Basingstoke and Winchester offer a comprehensive range of acute services and serve as a tertiary referral centre for colorectal, liver, peritoneal carcinomatosis, haemophilia and pseudomyxoma surgery.
Services are provided across Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover sites. The Trust serves a population of 600,000 and includes Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospitals (BNHH), Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH) in Winchester, Andover War Memorial Hospital (AWMH) and community hospitals. Services are delivered close to patients, with BNHH and RHCH 23 miles apart along the M3 corridor, providing excellent transport links to London and the south coast.
The Trust staff includes dynamic consultants, three of whom hold dual accreditation in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine. We are supported by enthusiastic nurse practitioners and Specialist Nurses who run outpatient clinics, a Patient Advice Line service, provide joint injection clinics and support the medical team.
