This opportunity fosters professional development within a vibrant city rich in culture and history.
The Infectious Disease and Microbiology research team in Bristol is seeking an ST1-5 level doctor to join our trial team as a clinical research fellow for a fixed term of 6 months in the first instance.
Vaccine research teams in Bristol have supported the delivery of clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines that have subsequently been approved for use. Trials are delivered between North Bristol Trust (NBT), University Hospital Bristol and Weston (UHBW) and other hospitals in the West of England region with the support of the local Clinical Research Network. This work has now expanded supporting other commercial and academic studies studying all areas of infection among both inpatients and the community.
Based in the Research and Learning Centre at the new Southmead Hospital (run by NBT) and working in partnership with colleagues at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (run by UHBW) in the city centre, the post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of trials, including research governance, review of study participants and recruitment. In addition, post holders with the appropriate experience may have the opportunity to develop an independent research project to develop alongside the ongoing studies.
Whilst the primary responsibility of the role is enabling the delivery of multi‑centre academic and commercial studies, post holders with the appropriate experience and enthusiasm will be supported in developing an independent project alongside this – for example literature or systematic reviews, small research projects, clinical experience, undergraduate teaching etc.
Candidates should have at least 3 years postgraduate experience and the role is particularly suited to those exploring a career in academic clinical infection. They will be supported in developing their CV with the aim of preparing for applications to Academic Clinical Fellow roles or Research Training Fellowships.
Recently named the best place to live in the UK by the Sunday Times (cool, classy and supremely creative), Bristol is a vibrant city with a rich maritime history. Somerset, the Southwest coast and Bristol Airport are minutes away and there are fast transport links to Wales and London.
The post holder will work across the two sites and provide cross‑cover for their counterpart at UHBW for annual/study leave or to provide flexibility to develop research projects/gain clinical experience.
