Job description
Job Summary

Based at John Radcliffe Hospital, you will contribute to clinical research in airways diseases within the Respiratory Medicine Unit, working with teams within Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine.

The post will support studies led by Professor Petousi & Professor Pavord: the Oxford Airways study on phenotyping of airways diseases and a randomised controlled trial of dupilumab in patients with high‑risk type‑2 high asthma (HOTHOT). You will recruit participants, conduct research visits as a medically‑qualified investigator, support trial delivery and data collection, undertake laboratory work, analyse data, and contribute to reports and publications. You will also run research clinics for patients with asthma and COPD and work with multidisciplinary collaborators.

It is expected that you are eligible to undertake clinical practice in the UK (having General Medical Council registration or proven eligibility for registration). Successful applicants will be required to hold an honorary clinical contract and therefore must ensure that they can fulfil all the criteria required by the GMC, their LETB and the National Health Service Trust.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit eligible participants for the HOTHOT randomised‑controlled clinical trial from Oxford University Hospitals and through collaboration with primary care.
  • Conduct research visits for the HOTHOT study and Oxford Airways study as a medically‑qualified investigator and support the research nurses with the scheduled activities, queries and completion of CRFs.
  • Undertake laboratory experiments according to experimental protocols relevant to the research project.
  • Collect and analyse data as required for the project.
  • Write progress reports for the HOTHOT study, as required and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Accept technical training in necessary methods, where appropriate, as well as mandatory training as required.
  • Run research clinics for patients with asthma and COPD and communicate with collaborators locally and nationally.
  • Write papers and contribute to publications and participate in seminars and conferences.
  • Work effectively within the team and with collaborators, which may include supporting or supervising junior members of the team on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • Attend regular meetings with project supervisors regarding the progress of the project and attend relevant group meetings and stay up‑to‑date with relevant literature.
  • Participate in and support the public engagement and widening access activities of the Department and the University (anticipated not more than 2 days per year).
About You
  • Hold an undergraduate degree with honours in medicine.
  • Have clinical experience at ST3+ level or equivalent, but not hold CCT or consultant status with a strong academic record.
  • Have significant experience of patient and public‑facing activities, both in clinical and non‑clinical settings, including PPIE.
  • Show evidence of interdisciplinary and collaborative working, both within clinical and research settings.
Benefits

University employees enjoy 38 days paid holiday, generous pension schemes, travel discounts, and a variety of professional development opportunities. Our range of other employee benefits and discounts also includes free entry to the Botanic Gardens and University colleges, and discounts at University museums.
