The Nuffield Department of Medicine is recruiting a Clinical Research Fellow in Gastroenterology to join a multidisciplinary team investigating the molecular basis of pathogenic autoantibodies in treatment-refractory inflammatory bowel disease and identifying potential new treatment targets. Based at the Centre for Human Genetics in Oxford, you will work under the supervision of Professor Holm Uhlig and Professor Simon Travis, with close collaboration across clinical, laboratory and computational research teams.
In this role, you will help deliver interventional gastroenterology studies including identifying and recruiting patients, providing clinical care in accordance with trial protocols, and collecting and processing blood and tissue samples for downstream single-cell and bulk RNA analysis, transcriptomics and proteomics. You will work closely with wet-lab scientists, bioinformaticians, clinical colleagues and the industry partners to generate insights as the trial progresses. You will also contribute to data analysis, research papers, conference abstracts and grant applications, while supporting the accurate documentation and regulatory standards required for clinical research.
It is essential that you hold a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and be a UK GMC-registered medical practitioner with experience working full time as a doctor within the NHS. You will need excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, together with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A methodical approach to data collection, an understanding of data protection and relevant professional guidelines, and the ability to manage multiple projects are also essential. Experience in gastroenterology, clinical trials or research, MRCP or equivalent, and an understanding of research methodology would be advantageous.
The post also offers significant scope for research and professional development. You will be encouraged to develop an area of your own interest and may have the opportunity to work towards a higher degree, such as a DPhil or MSc, with potential funding available through the industry collaboration. Training and research opportunities within the Clinical Trials Unit and wider translational research programme will further support your development during the three-year appointment.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 3 years and is funded by Johnson and Johnson.
Salary (£) : Grade E63: £40,190 - £76,582 per annum dependent on qualifications and experience, in line with current pay protection and translational arrangements in the NHS.
