Job Overview

Our well‑known established client is looking for a Clinical Psychologist / Counselling Psychologist Band 8A/B (Permanent) based in Mildenhall, Suffolk, specialising in assessment and ongoing support for children and young people with communication differences, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Our experienced client team includes speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, art therapists and physiotherapists. They are also recruiting a medical doctor to join our multi‑disciplinary team. They pride themselves on providing compassionate, evidence‑based care that supports families and promotes the best possible outcomes for children and young people.

Job Role

You will play a lead role in the assessment and diagnosis of ASD and/or ADHD in children and young people, contributing your expertise as part of a holistic and collaborative process. You will also provide ongoing support to the children, young people and their families post‑diagnosis as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct developmental and psychological assessments as part of a comprehensive autism and/or ADHD diagnostic pathway
  • Contribute psychological opinion and diagnostic formulation in line with NICE guidelines and current best evidence‑based practice
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions with doctors, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and other professionals
  • Provide written reports summarising findings and recommendations
  • Offer advice to families and referrers on follow‑up care, management, and onward referrals where appropriate
  • Support the continued development of our neurodevelopmental assessment service
Essential
  • HCPC registration with a licence to practise in the UK
  • Specific qualification/s in Children's/Adolescent Psychology and/or Psychiatry
  • Experience working within NHS or private diagnostic pathways for ASD/ADHD
  • Familiarity with tools such as ADOS‑2, ADI‑R, or similar assessments
  • Ability to complete Psychometric Assessments to understand the child's learning profile
  • Psychological Formulation, integrating all developmental and behavioural data to provide the psychological formulation that underpins the diagnostic decision.
  • Experience in community paediatrics, neurodevelopmental services, CAMHS, or primary care
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people, particularly within developmental or behavioural health
  • Strong knowledge of ASD and ADHD diagnostic criteria and psychological assessment tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
