A healthcare provider in the United Kingdom is seeking a full-time Clinical Psychologist to join the Therapeutic team at the Lookout Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit. The role involves specialist psychological assessments, working with multidisciplinary teams, and providing training and supervision. Applicants should have or be eligible for a Band 8a qualification. Continuing professional development is encouraged. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people aged 13 to 18.
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Therapeutic team at the Lookout Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit. The role is a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist full‑time position (37.5 hours per week). We would also consider developing this role as a preceptorship post (Band 7‑8a) and welcome applications from newly qualified clinical psychologists or those due to qualify in 2026.
The Lookout is a purpose‑built unit consisting of three wards – general admissions, eating disorders and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – supporting young people aged 13 to 18. It has an onsite school and a variety of recreational activities for residents, including baking, music and trip out.
Psychologists are encouraged to pursue a range of CPD to further develop their skills. The team meets regularly for CPD and psychology‑specific business meetings. Recent opportunities have included Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Compassion‑Focused Therapy (CFT). There is provision for peer supervision and specialist supervision where required. Clinical supervision is highly valued: Band 8a psychologists will be offered monthly supervision from a clinical psychologist, while a Band 7 preceptor will receive fortnightly supervision for a period until transition to monthly.
Applicants should hold a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist qualification or be eligible for a Band 7 preceptor role. Experience of working within or closely with inpatient services would be helpful but is not essential. The role requires a commitment to ongoing professional development and the ability to work closely with a multidisciplinary team.
Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check; the cost (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced) will be deducted from salary over the first two months of employment. You are also encouraged to enrol in the DBS Update Service (annual fee £16).
