Job summary

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist to deliver specialist 1:1 and group interventions for adult male prisoners at HMP Norwich. You will work within a multidisciplinary team including Mental Health Nurses, Psychiatrists and other professionals.

The role focuses on specialist assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions, with a strong emphasis on reducing self-harm and supporting staff wellbeing through supervision and staff

Qualifications

• Postgraduate Degree (or equivalent) in Clinical/Forensic Psychology, accredited by the BPS.
• Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC.
• Evidence of CPD in specialised areas of psychological practice.
• Experience as a qualified clinical/forensic psychologist in MDT settings.
• Experience with risk assessment, complex cases and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provision of specialist psychology assessment, formulation and interventions for individuals and groups.
• Deliver 1:1 and group interventions for adult male prisoners at HMP Norwich.
• Support staff wellbeing and reflective supervision within a challenging environment.

Job summary

We are looking for a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist with relevant experience and training to the deliver specialist 1:1/Group interventions with adult male prisoners at HMP/YOI Norwich prison.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a continually developing service,

Within the team you will be working with a multidisciplinary team inclusive of Mental Health Nurses, Psychiatrists, Therapists, occupational Therapist, Assistant Practitioners, as well as prison based professionals.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at HMP Norwich. The role will involve working closely with the Mental Health In Reach team providing a specialist assessment and intervention provision , complimenting the current multi-disciplinary team

You will be working with men who may self-harm, have attempted suicide, and/or experience high levels of anxiety or trauma/PTSD. The role includes having an active contribution in reducing self-harm, self destructive and violent behaviour.

Clinical: Provision of specialist psychology assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions for individuals and groups, referred to the service.

Training & Development: Supporting and where appropriate implementing and delivering training to embed psychologically informed practices within the multidisciplinary team, supporting a stepped care model of psychological care.

Staff Wellbeing & Resilience: Promote staff wellbeing by leading reflective supervision and post-incident support enhancing resilience and retention in challenging environments.

The service is currently contracted to NSFT but has gone out for re-tender, so will be managed and delivered by a different provider from the 1st April 2027. The new provider is yet to be confirmed.

Qualifications

Essential

• Post Graduate Degree (or equivalent) in Clinical/Forensic Psychology, accredited by the BPS
• Ongoing Specialist training/accredited short courses
• Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC
• Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
• Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions
• Experience working as a qualified clinical/forensic psychologist and are able to evidence appropriate knowledge/experience in practice
• Experience of working with a variety and severity client groups and clinical problems in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems
• Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment
• Experience of representing psychology within MDT settings (clinical and organisational)
• Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post
• Experience of supervision and teaching
• Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
• Well-developed communication skills (oral and written)
• Able to effectively communicate technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals inside and outside of the NHS
• Skills in consultation to professional and non-professional groups
• Skills in training and supervision. Skills in creating and delivering presentations and training programmes
• Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post
