We're looking for a Clinical Psychologist on a permanent contract, HCPC registered or with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, to join our Tier 3 weight management team at Oviva. This role is open to both part‑time (min. 16 hours weekly) and full‑time applicants with flexible working patterns.
Responsibilities
- Delivering one‑to‑one patient weight management care remotely via phone or video calls and/or using the Oviva smartphone app. The remit of this role is primarily to support changes in eating and activity behaviours, rather than treat common mental health problems.
- Assessing patients for psychological therapy as part of the weight management service; to independently implement appropriate initial assessment methods.
- Collaborating with the MDT (dietitians, nurses, fellow psychology team members) regarding the care of participants and to provide specialised advice to such staff during clinical supervision sessions regarding the treatment of patients.
- Supporting PWPs with complex cases and providing advice/adhoc training to the team as required.
- Creating individual formulations based on initial screening and assessment, providing therapeutic weight management and lifestyle change input for patients identified as suitable within the Tier 3 service, alongside dietetic support, drawing on your own clinical expertise within weight management/eating disorders, psychological theory, our existing care packages, current research, and relevant guidelines, e.g. NICE.
- Initial screening involves assessing risk of Binge Eating Disorder which may then be discussed with MDT.
- Appropriately manage clinical risk (e.g. safeguarding concerns) when it arises during clinical practice.
- Working autonomously, being responsible for appropriately managing clinical risk when it arises during clinical practice, while having recourse to other professionals for guidance.
- To maintain adequate CPD, receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines and continue to meet BPS registration requirements.
- Maintaining confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and ensuring that participant confidentiality is protected at all times.
- Creating relevant internal or patient‑facings content for the service, as required.
Essential Qualifications
- Confident in managing time efficiently and independently managing a caseload of patients, including booking follow‑up appointments and calendar management.
- Excellent communicator, able to work well as a member of a team, communicating in a timely and effective manner.
- Confident in using technology to record and review patient notes and willingness to learn how to effectively use Oviva's technology to support patients.
- A qualified Clinical Psychologist with a minimum of 1 year experience of weight management and/or bariatric experience within a mental health setting, or working with patients with long‑term health conditions who are also living with obesity.
- An understanding of the issues many people living with obesity face including weight stigma.
- Able to provide supportive, empathetic patient‑centred care to patients who may have complex physical and mental health needs.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience related to offering physical activity support.
- Experience of working in an MDT, e.g. with dietitians.
- Experience of working in eating disorders, diabetes, and/or working with people who have long‑term physical health conditions would be preferred, however, training will be provided.
- Have experience in providing care remotely and using technology to assist with therapeutic goals.
