Job summary

Cygnet Afon Las in Corwen is recruiting a part-time Neuro Psychologist to lead the psychology service at a new 15-bed neurocognitive unit for men. You will supervise the onsite psychologist and contribute to cognitive assessments, neurorehabilitation and therapy, while developing care plans with the MDT.

The role involves training staff, coordinating neuropsychology services, and contributing to clinical research and governance.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered practitioner with neuropsychology experience.
• Experience in neurorehabilitation or mental health/forensic settings encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate the psychology service at Cygnet Afon Las.
• Provide line management and supervision to the Psychology team.
• Chair meetings, support standardised practice, contribute to service development.
• Carry out psychological assessments and provide therapy to individuals & groups.
• Support positive behaviour support plans and MDT collaboration.
• Deliver staff training and supervision; contribute to research & governance.

We need a Clinical Psychologist, preferably with an interest in working towards the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology, to join our brand new service, Cygnet Afon Las.
Joining our team, you will work part time, 33.5hrs per week across 4 days.

Cygnet Afon Las:
Cygnet Afon Las is a brand-new service scheduled to open in early 2027. Located in Corwen, Denbighshire, the hospital will provide a 15-bed neurocognitive service for men, delivering specialist care and support for individuals with complex needs. The service will accept referrals from the community, as well as from neurosurgical and neurorehabilitation services, offering a clear pathway for assessment, treatment and recovery.
Your Day-to-Day…
At Cygnet Afon Las, you will be overseeing the psychology service and providing supervision to the onsite assistant psychologist. There will be opportunities to carry out cognitive assessment, neuro-rehabilitation, capacity assessment, risk assessment and psychological therapy.

• Oversee and co-ordinate the psychology service at Cygnet Afon Las.
• Provide line management and supervision to the Psychology team.
• Provide line management and supervision to other psychologists in the national neuropsychology department.
• Contribute to the Cygnet national neuropsychology department through attending and chairing meetings, presenting case studies, supporting the development of standardised practice, leading/contributing to service development projects, service related research and promoting positive governance practices.
• Positively contribute to the multidisciplinary team at Cygnet Afon Las.
• Carry out psychological assessments & provide therapy to individuals & groups.
• Support Cygnet Afon Las to implement the positive behaviour support approach to managing residents, including providing staff support and training and ensuring all residents at Cygnet Afon Las have an up to date positive behaviour support plan that is reflective of their needs.
• Collaboratively develop care plans, risk assessments and risk management measures with the MDT.
• Provide training & supervision to colleagues, and consultation to teams.
• Evaluate the local and national neuropsychology/neuropsychiatry service, contribute to its development & carry out clinical research.
• Disseminate outcomes via conference presentations and publications.

We are looking for someone who is…

• A HCPC registered Practitioner or Neuro Psychologist, ideally with experience of working in a neuro-rehabilitation and/or mental health/forensic settings.
• On the British Psychological Society Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists or working towards this.
• On the British Psychological Society register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors or eligible for entry onto this.
• Passionate about working with people presenting with complex range of Neuropsychological difficulties.
• Capable of providing treatment for people with cognitive impairments such as memory problems, executive functioning difficulties, language difficulties alongside mental health difficulties, self-harm, physical & verbal aggression, history of sexual offending and drug & alcohol problem where appropriate and associated with Neuropsychological issues.
