Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) invites applications for a Clinical Photography & Medical Illustration role as part of our Tele Dermatology service expansion. You will collaborate with a busy team, producing clinical photographs and video in studio, on wards, clinics and theatres, while maintaining high standards and supporting education and research.

Qualifications

Possess a degree in photography or related media with a focus on photography, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of clinical photography practice in a range of clinical environments.
Knowledge of consent, confidentiality, copyright, Mental Capacity Act, Data Protection and GDPR and other relevant legislation in relation to clinical photography practice.
Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff.
Demonstrate evidence of a wide range of experience in clinical photography to a consistently high standard.

Responsibilities

To work in a team of clinical photographers to produce clinical photographs/video to aid patient care, diagnosis, teaching, research, and publications.
The postholder will provide a range of photographic knowledge and skills to support a variety of multidisciplinary teams, across a range of clinical specialties within the organisation.
Working in a variety of clinical environments, the postholder will use standardised and non-standardised photographic techniques.

The ABUHB Clinical Photography & Medical Illustration department have an exciting opportunity to become part of a busy team throughout the Trust.
We have a very successful Tele Dermatology service that is in the process of being adopted on an ‘All Wales’ basis, which you would be part of. You will be working as a valued member of our team to provide comprehensive, standardised high quality clinical photography and video in the studio and on the wards, as well as covering clinics and taking images in theatre. You must have a friendly disposition, be able to work as part of a team and be able to manage and prioritise own workload.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
This post is a fixed term/ secondment for 12 months from 1/3/2027 - 28/2/2028 to meet service needs. If you are interested applying for the fixed term/secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Qualification & Knowledge

Essential criteria

Possess a degree in photography or related media subject that has a focus on photography, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrate knowledge of clinical photography practice in a range of clinical environments.
Knowledge of the range of services, equipment and software used in wider medical illustration practice.
Knowledge of consent, confidentiality, copyright, Mental Capacity Act, Data Protection and GDPR and other relevant legislation in relation to clinical photography practice.
Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff.

Desirable criteria

Hold a postgraduate / level 7 qualification in Clinical Photography or Medical Illustration.
A member of the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) voluntary register for medical illustrators.
Demonstrate some knowledge and understanding of current trends in the NHS and clinical photography profession.

Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.

Hold or be undertaking a qualification that will allow voluntary registration as a Medical Illustrator with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS).
