Role Overview

A vacancy at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust for a band 4 to 5 progression Clinical Pharmacy Technician within the General and Specialist Medicine / Frailty team at The William Harvey, Hospital Ashford.

The role offers a fast‑paced, varied environment where your clinical knowledge is continually developed to provide a patient‑focused medicines‑management service. You will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, with the goal of delivering excellent service to patients, prioritising their safety and well-being. The position includes regular teaching to other clinicians and healthcare professionals, and requires a commitment to the in‑house progression policy for advancement to band 5. The post is suitable for pharmacy technicians newly qualified or from community settings who want to start a hospital career.

Key Responsibilities
  • Completing detailed medication histories using multiple sources, reconciling with current inpatient medications, and making interventions where appropriate.
  • Counselling patients on new or changed medications to promote compliance.
  • Aiding doctors and nurses with medication queries.
  • Evaluating the suitability of patients’ medications for use in the hospital setting.
  • Participating in the discharge planning of patients with ward staff and other healthcare professionals in both secondary and primary care.
  • Accuracy checking of dispensed items in the main hospital dispensary or satellite pharmacy within the acute medicines unit.
  • Carrying out audits on the department to ensure procedures are being followed.
