Job summary

Circle Health Group's Three Shires Hospital in Northampton is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join the Pharmacy Department on a bank, as-and-when-required basis.

You will conduct medication reviews, provide patient advice, support safe prescribing, review prescriptions, promote cost-effective use, and work with procurement to ensure medicines availability. Applicants should have MPharm/BSc/BPharm, GPhC registration, and hospital pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm, BSc or BPharm).
  • GPhC registration as Pharmacist.
  • Clinical hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Knowledge of therapeutics and guidelines.
  • Strong communication and decision‑making.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct medication reviews for inpatients/outpatients.

  • Support safe prescribing through reconciliation and dose adjustment.
  • Review and authorise prescriptions per guidelines and formulary.
  • Promote cost‑effective medicine use per policies.

Salary: Up to £35.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Three Shires Hospital in Northampton is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Clinical Pharmacist to join their team of staff in the Pharmacy Department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

  • Conduct medication reviews for inpatients and outpatients, identifying interactions, contraindications, and opportunities for medicines optimisation.
  • Provide tailored advice to patients on their treatment plans, including side effects, compliance, and lifestyle considerations.
  • Support safe prescribing through reconciliation, clinical screening, and dose adjustment
  • Review and authorise prescriptions in line with clinical guidelines, formulary restrictions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote safe and cost-effective use of medicines by supporting adherence to local and national policies.
  • Collaborate with procurement, stock control, and pharmacy technicians to ensure medicine availability and supply continuity.
  • Monitor and report medication incidents, near misses, and adverse drug reactions in line with hospital protocols and MHRA guidance.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • A degree in Pharmacy MPharm, BSc or BPharm.
  • GPhC registration as a Pharmacist.
  • Previous experience in a clinical hospital pharmacy role.
  • Strong knowledge of therapeutics, clinical guidelines, and pharmaceutical legislation.
  • Excellent communication and clinical decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Confident using electronic prescribing and medication administration systems (e.g., EPMA).
