A leading healthcare provider in London seeks a part-time Clinical Nurse Specialist focusing on Traumatic Brain Injury. Clinical Nurse Specialist - Traumatic Brain Injury

An opportunity has arisen for a part time Band 7 Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the brain injury team at King's College Hospital. The brain injury team provide specialist inpatient and outpatient care to people who have suffered an acquired brain injury. We are a multi-disciplinary team comprising of specialist nurses, family therapist, clinical psychology, and doctors specialising in neurology, neuropsychiatry and rehabilitation medicine.

We manage a caseload of complex patients, provide education, support and clinical advice for patients, their families and the MDT to facilitate the rehabilitation pathway. We utilise advanced specialist skills and extensive knowledge base to undertake specialist assessments via patient centred approach.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated, individual with excellent communication skills, effective teamworking and a passion for service development and improvement to join our team.

Main duties of the job
  • To work as a specialist practitioner and effectively develop and deliver an expert nursing service within the specialist area.
  • To manage a caseload of patients who have sustained a traumatic brain injury.
  • To proactively co-ordinate and manage service provision
  • To provide evidence based care in line with current research and NICE guidelines.
  • To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.
  • To establish clear lines of communication within the specialty team to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients.
  • To link with healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of people in the community.

Education and Qualifications
  • NMC Level 1 or Level 15 Registered Nurse
  • An advanced practitioner either through formal qualification and/or extensive clinical experience Brain Injury, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuro-rehab or Neuro Critical Care
  • Relevant post-registration qualification and evidence of professional development
Knowledge and Experience
  • Clinical experience pertinent to brain injury or clinical expertise working as a specialist nurse with transferable skills in to working with brain injury patients e.g. running nurse-led clinics, managing challenging behaviour, experience with PDOC patients, chairing complex meetings, long term neurological condition management
  • Experience of participating in data collection for clinical audits and analysing data
  • Experience of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Service development, change management and clinical practice development
  • Awareness of own leadership skills / styleExperience of delivering presentations
  • Demonstrable experience of working within the Mental Capacity Act e.g. DOLS and best interest decision making
  • Clinical experience working with common mental health presentations e.g. mental state assessment, counselling skills, risk assessment
