Job Summary

Are you an experienced Mental Health Nurse with specialist experience and knowledge of children’s mental health and do you want to be a part of something special whilst developing your skills at the same time?

As a Specialist Nurse in the community you will be responsible for providing full assessments, formulation and evidence‑based interventions to children, young people and their families who are experiencing mental health difficulties. We recognise the importance of supporting all staff in building a healthy, well‑functioning team and service.

Main Duties of the Job

We are excited to advertise a full‑time permanent role for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our expanding CAMHS community team. This role supports nursing career development and enhanced nursing practice within the core CAMHS service.

  • You will be a key core practitioner within the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service, using leadership skills to support and develop service delivery.
  • You will be innovative and facilitate evidence‑based practice delivery for children, young people and their families across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
  • You will develop clinical practice by leading and developing multi‑disciplinary team working across the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Health and Social Care Community.
  • You will lead the nursing provision in the ICA, acting as a clinical lead alongside the Lead Psychologist covering the East CAMHS area.
  • You will maintain an individual caseload, conducting routine and high‑priority assessments and interventions as appropriate and exercising clinical autonomy.
  • You will liaise and provide advice, information and consultation to colleagues and other agencies and undertake service governance activity, including research and audit.

Person Specification

Education and Training – Essential:

  • Current professional registration with the NMC, HCPC
  • Professional qualification – RMN, RNC
  • Post‑graduate qualification to Master’s level in a relevant clinical specialism or equivalent experience

Education and Training – Desirable:

  • NMP qualification in independent nurse prescribing

Experience – Essential:

  • Substantial experience working within mental health
  • Evidence of training and experience in the delivery of evidence‑based interventions for children, young people and their families
  • Extensive experience of working with children and adolescents with mental health or emotional difficulties
  • Experience and confidence in the delivery of presentations and training in your specialist area
  • Experience in supervising others

Experience – Desirable:

  • Qualification in teaching and assessing learners
