Xander-Recruitment-Group-Ltd is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide direct assessment, support and advocacy for patients with life-limiting illnesses. The role involves delivering high-quality, person-centred palliative care across Berkshire, Reading and South Oxfordshire, with a mix of day and night shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct assessment, support and advocacy to service users and carers dealing with complex, distressing and life-limiting illnesses.
  • Respond to telephone calls, offering appropriate clinical advice, and support the wider team to deliver high-quality care.
  • Travel between Berkshire base, In-Patient Unit in Reading and South Oxfordshire, with day and night shifts.
  • Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate service user records.

Mixed shifts - Days 8:00am-8:30pm and Nights 8:00pm-8:30am
£48,141.02-£51,132.73 - Depending on experience and Non-Medical Prescribing qualification

*Essential requirements - UK NMC Registered General Nurse or Adult Nurse with a Full UK driving licence and own transport

About the role

The Clinical Nurse Specialists play an essential role in providing high-quality, person centred care for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. By combining clinical expertise, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills, they ensure that patients and families experience dignity, comfort, and peace during some of the most challenging times of their lives. Their role enhances the overall quality of palliative care and supports the healthcare team in delivering the best possible outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Palliative Care Nurse who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first.

Your main duties will be to provide direct assessment, support and advocacy to service users and carers dealing with complex, distressing and life-limiting illnesses.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring they receive timely advice and guidance. The role will be primarily based in Berkshire, with travel to the In-Patient Unit in Reading and South Oxfordshire, working a combination of day and night shifts. Travel will be coordinated from the Berkshire base. Responsibilities will include responding to telephone calls, offering appropriate clinical advice, and supporting the wider team to deliver high-quality care across both settings. The successful candidate will also be expected to have a strong interest in completing their Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) course as part of their ongoing professional development.

Minimum Essential Criteria:

  • Ability to support adjustments for diverse patient needs
  • Skilled in accessible communication with patients and families
  • Commitment to inclusion and patient advocacy
Desirable Criteria:
  • Advanced communication training (e.g. Sage & Thyme)
  • Experience with symptom management in complex needs

The organisation provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role and full training/competency assessment will be provided. There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through their education programme and development framework is encouraged.
