The closing date is 10 November 2025

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Speech & Language Therapist (SLT)to join the Surgical Speech & Language Therapy Team (SSLTT), primarily based at York Hospital with travel to Scarborough and other Trust localities regularly.

This role would be suited to someone already experienced in working in Surgery/Critical Care and/or ENT/Voice or someone who is wishing to expand their knowledge and experience within these areas. We would also welcome applications from band 6 SLT's who are wishing to commence their journey into clinical leadership through a supportive development programme.

The SSLTT provides clinical inpatient and outpatient services to a variety of specialities, including Critical Care, Voice and ENT and Head and Neck Oncology. There is a weekly videofluoroscopy clinic as well as a flourishing newly established FEES service.

The department is well established in facilitating the training of SLT students and staff are involved in delivering a variety of rolling training programmes for other health care professionals across the Trust, relating to eating, drinking and communication. You will join a small but friendly team of speech and language therapists and support staff. You will be part of a supportive senior leadership team, including other Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapists, a Team Manager, as well as Senior Operational Manager and Speech and Language Therapy Professional Lead.

Main duties of the job

As a clinical lead, you will work closely with speech and language therapists and multi-professional colleagues across the Trust, to ensure high quality speech and language therapy care is provided for all patients in the service. You will also have the opportunity to influence change in the service delivery, working effectively in smaller teams to lead improvement and innovation across different pathways.

There will be opportunities to engage in research, present your work and lecture in the areas of your clinical expertise. You will also be expected to support the learning and development of other speech and language therapists and multi-professional colleagues through training, supervision, reflective practice and other evidence based approaches to adult learning.

You will provide clinical leadership for a team that includes registered speech and language therapists, assistant practitioners and support workers. Excellent team working and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work autonomously to assess and manage a caseload of complex patients. Applicants must be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities reaching beyond their clinical area of expertise. You need to be resilient and able to manage and prioritise your caseload whilst supporting the work and development of the team, managing conflicting demands using your prioritisation, organisation and communication skills and proposing solutions to complex problems.
