Clinical Healthcare Support Worker, Band 3

As a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker on Gallery ward 2, you will work under direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse at all times. You are required to deliver excellent kind and compassionate care to patients at all times, using various skills. You will recognise your abilities and limitations of your competence and only carry out those tasks for which you are trained, ensuring appropriate escalation of concerns. You will keep your mandatory learning up to date and ensure adequate practice at all times. As a member of the Gallery ward 2 team you will support non clinical staff, Staff Nurses, the Nurse in Charge of the duty shift and Clinicians on a daily basis. You will always act in the best interest of patients and treat everyone with respect.

Main duties of the job

Carry out a range of practical and clinical skills which include:

  • Taking and recording accurately observations of temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration rate, weight, blood glucose, MUST score
  • Recognise and report any abnormalities to the registered nurse.
  • Provide essential patient care for the patient including clothing, personal hygiene and change of catheter bags
  • To be able to assist patients with mobility.
  • General duties including answering the telephone and taking messages, chaperoning patients, escorting patients and running errands.
  • Provide compassionate care for patients ensuring their hygiene and nutritional needs are met, which may include assistance with eating and drinking and mouthcare.
  • Help patient with their toileting requirements.
  • Assisting the Registered nurse with admissions and discharges by completing property checklists and bed cleaning upon patient discharge
  • You will have a responsibility to keep yourself and colleagues safe at all times. To do this, it is essential you are up to date with manual handling training, conflict resolution training, dementia care training and other relevant health and safety training.
  • As a member of the Gallery ward 2 team you will contribute to ensuring the environment is clean, tidy, clutter free and welcoming.
  • Ad hoc duties which will be delegated to you within the scope of your role and in accordance with the excellent team Spirit on Gallery Ward 2 and the drive to deliver excellent care to our patients.

Qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE grade C or equivalent in key skills level 2 or functional skills level 2 numeracy and literacy
  • NVQ/QCF in Health or Health and Social Care Level 2 [or equivalent] Care Certificate
Experience
  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
Knowledge/Skills
