We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an experienced and motivated professional to join our Quality Governance & Risk Directorate. This is a home-based role with some travel to services across the UK.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with our Clinical Director and service managers, you will lead on quality, safety, and governance, ensuring our services deliver safe, effective, and high-quality care.

This role combines strategic oversight with targeted operational support, with a focus on:

  • Focusing on patient safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Infection prevention
  • Quality improvement
  • Compliance with regulatory standards.

Job responsibilities

Act as the Clinical Governance and Patient Safety lead for designated service areas.

Develop and maintain risk profiles, identifying key risks and solutions to improve safety for staff and service users.

Provide expert advice on compliance with CQC and other statutory or national standards.

Contribute to organisational strategy by advising executives and service managers on governance, quality improvement, and patient experience.

Lead and support investigations into incidents, complaints, and other safety-related events.

Oversee safeguarding, infection prevention and control, and clinical risk processes.

Develop and monitor outcome measures, KPIs, and audit programmes to ensure continuous improvement.

Coordinate and contribute to Quality Assurance visits, audits, and Journey to Outstanding initiatives.

Ensure services align with national guidelines, best practices, and quality standards.

Lead or support quality improvement and research projects across the organisation.

Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to managers and staff on safe practice, risk management, and governance processes.

Promote a culture of learning by sharing insights from incidents, audits, and feedback.

Facilitate engagement with service users and stakeholders to improve care delivery and outcomes.

Adhere to information governance, data protection, and confidentiality requirements.

Ensure safe record-keeping and information quality in line with national standards.

Contribute to staff wellbeing initiatives and promote safe working practices.

Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion within all governance and service delivery activities.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience / Knowledge in delivering or supporting Mental Health Services.
  • Extensive post-registration clinical experience, including working with people with complex mental health needs.
  • Proven track record in clinical governance, patient safety, or quality improvement.
  • Experience of leading investigations into incidents and complaint.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving service outcomes and performance targets.
  • Research and audit experience.
  • Experience in Residential Nursing Services or Community support Services.
  • Previous experience in a governance or quality leadership role.
Knowledge
  • Experience / Knowledge in delivering or supporting Mental Health Services.
  • Strong knowledge of CQC (or equivalent regulatory body) standards and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong coaching/mentoring and training ability.
  • Skilled in risk assessment, investigation, and problem-solving.
  • Confident in presenting findings and reports at senior levels.
  • Competent IT user (MS Office, CRM systems).
Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent clinical qualification).
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
