Overview

Are you a Clinical/ Forensic Psychologist looking to take the next step in your career? If so, join Thornford Park as a Clinical/ Forensic Psychologist where you will provide the Ward Psychologist role for a male Learning Disability Medium Secure Unit (MSU). You will be an integral part of multidisciplinary teams, giving psychological input to patient groups and supporting and supervising the Assistant Psychologist working on the ward. Thornford Park offers care for male and female service users who require medium or low security, including a 14‑bed low secure service for male patients with Autism Spectrum Disorders, a medium/low secure service for females with a Learning Disability, a medium secure service for males with Learning Disability, and two Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (one male, one female) for individuals in crisis.

Responsibilities
  • Autonomous in managing your own caseload, working with complex service‑users.
  • Attending regular clinical and service development meetings such as MDTs, CPAs, referrals and other hospital‑wide meetings.
  • Integral part of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team on the Male LD MSU.
  • Providing both long‑ and short‑term work, including clinical assessments to determine needs and treatment plans.
  • Delivering individual and group work to patients.
  • Maintaining monthly clinical supervision and regular line‑management supervision.
  • Providing clinical supervision to the Assistant Psychologist and other therapy staff, facilitating reflective practice.
  • Contributing written and verbal input to MDT/ICR.
  • Supporting MDT in the development and review of care plans.
  • Offering specialist clinical advice, including assessment of care needs and development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes.
  • Contributing to professional development within the team.
  • Contributing to teaching as part of induction/mandatory training.
  • Contributing to audit and research as directed by the line manager.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a Doctorate in either Clinical or Forensic Psychology or the British Psychological Society’s Stage 2 training in Forensic Psychology, enabling registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist and charterable status with the British Psychological Society.
  • Experience working with clients with complex needs relevant to the service population.
  • Competency in psychological assessment and formulation skills and an aptitude for learning new assessment methods.
  • Competency with risk assessment/management tools and formulation.
  • Clinical therapy skills – experience using CBT and/or other psychological models to address a range of clinical and forensic issues, with awareness of other modalities that may be applied to the current service user population.
