A regional teaching hospital in the UK is seeking a gastroenterology registrar to fulfill clinical duties, including ward rounds and endoscopy training. Fulfil the day‑to‑day activities of a gastroenterology registrar including clinic, ward rounds, training endoscopy lists and general medical on‑calls, working under the supervision of the Gastroenterology consultants. The post is fixed term for 6 months with a view to a further 6‑month extension and is an excellent preparation for a candidate applying for a specialist training post.
University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust is the regional teaching hospital providing general acute services to Brighton and Hove and Mid Sussex, and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south east of England. It forms the east part of the newly formed University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust.
The Gastroenterology Department is a medical department within the Gastroenterology and Screening directorate, comprising nine full‑time consultant gastroenterologists and a professor of hepatology. Cover is provided for gastroenterology patients and emergency endoscopy 7 days a week.
Specialist interests include advanced therapeutic endoscopy – EMR, ESD, ERCP and EUS – with teaching and training in endoscopic skills and directly within the medical school. Services include video capsule endoscopy, an IBD super/MDT clinic with a nationally recognised psychology service, trans‑nasal endoscopy, oesophageal manometry, physiology and nutrition service, a regional hepatitis service and a monthly joint clinic with transplant hepatologists from Kings College Hospital. The department is a JAG accredited endoscopy training unit.
