A leading healthcare trust in the UK seeks a Fellow in paediatric haematology to manage patient care and perform key clinical procedures. The post offers a year of experience in a dynamic team, with an option for an additional year. Ideal for trainees nearing MRCPCH completion eager to expand their clinical expertise and research involvement.
The post is based in the West London Children’s Healthcare, Haematology and Stem Cell Transplant Unit at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College, a leading centre for blood and marrow transplantation and gene therapy in non-malignant haematological disorders. The Trust Fellowship provides exposure to all aspects of paediatric haematology and transplantation while allowing significant time to gain experience in performing clinical procedures, audits, leadership, and related activities as needed. The post will be for one year, with the possibility to extend for a further year. The fellowship is suitable for post-CCT haematology or paediatric trainees or paediatric/haematology trainees in the earlier stages of their training who have, or are near to completing, MRCPCH or equivalent, and who seek expertise in paediatric haematology alongside experience in a related area such as research, procedures or management.
The post-holder will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of all paediatric haematology patients, including those undergoing a stem cell transplant and their donors, gene therapy patients, complex haemoglobinopathy patients, patients with bone marrow failure, shared care oncology patients and patients with immune cytopenias.
The post-holder will share in the day-to-day management of all Paediatric Haematology inpatients and day-care review patients, and will perform procedures such as bone marrow examination and bone marrow harvests (after training and with supervision). This post does not offer specific laboratory haematology training, but appointees with an interest in haematology are actively encouraged to attend laboratory meetings, weekly morphology teaching and related courses.
