A healthcare provider in the UK is seeking a Clinical Fellow Ophthalmologist to provide general and emergency ophthalmology services. The role involves participation in clinics, teamwork, and opportunities for training in cataract surgery. Ideal candidates will have a strong desire to teach and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Participation in a 1 in 8 second on-call rota is expected.
University Hospitals Dorset is newly formed by a merger of Poole Hospital and Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals partnered with Bournemouth University. RBH is the designated major acute and emergency hospital in Dorset housing the Eye Centre where the posts are mainly based, and Poole Hospital is the major planned care hospital. You will be applying to join a team of 13 consultants covering all subspecialties, 3 associate specialists, 4 Trust grade doctors and 6 Wessex Deanery specialist registrars. Optometrists, Orthoptists, Nurse specialists and technician specialists.
Participation in the 1 in 8 second on-call rota is essential.
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Ophthalmologist within the general ophthalmology service. It will involve general ophthalmology, emergency and medical retinal clinics. It will involve some intravitreal injections and access to cataract surgery training if appropriate.
Applicants should be able to fit into a friendly, cohesive and enthusiastic unit. They will be expected to contribute to the general ophthalmology service and emergency eye care service. Further speciality interests could be developed depending on the successful candidate's training and aspirations. They should have a desire to teach and will be expected to participate in clinical audit and governance. They will be required to be involved in quality improvement and audit programmes and work in a multidisciplinary team.
UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service‑specific questions at interview.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
