Job description
Job Overview

Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics (ST3+ level) with a special interest in Maternity Triage. Many opportunities available for those wishing to pursue ATSMs. The post holder will be an integral part of the general obstetrics team, working at Northwick Park Hospital.

Responsibilities and Duties

Following the closure of the maternity unit at Ealing the obstetric workload is based at Northwick Park, consisting mainly of high‑risk patients with diverse medical conditions. The post holder will support the maternity department by:

  • Assisting with triage and the implementation of BSOTS.
  • Communicating clearly with women in labour or distress to understand their wishes and fears, enabling them to participate in decisions regarding their management.
  • Helping clients understand the procedures proposed for their own safety and that of their babies.
  • Supporting the joint diabetes clinic.
  • Maintaining flexibility with the timetable to address acute and unexpected staff shortages; an individual job plan will be discussed with the successful candidate.

The role is not associated with any on‑call commitment. The appointee will report directly to Ms Saswati Maitra.

Hospital and Department Details

The maternity unit at Northwick Park provides a high‑risk delivery suite with dedicated theatres, HDU, triage, observation bay and recovery unit. It also hosts a mid‑wifery led ward for low‑risk women and those wishing to have a water birth. Antenatal clinics are held both at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex.
