Job description

Overview

We are delighted to announce an opening for a suitably experienced surgeon who wishes to further their skills and experience in adult neurosurgery as a clinical fellow at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. The post will be available initially till July 2026.

Clinical Duties

• Assist in theatre and daily ward rounds under the supervision of a consultant.
• Attend outpatients, clinical meetings and participate in teaching programs.
• Serve on a hybrid on‑call rota and support emergency neurosurgical work.
• Perform administration work (typing/dictation and general patient admin).

Teaching & Supervision

• Guide and train junior medical staff on the ward and in theatres.
• Contribute to teaching of medical students on an ad‑hoc basis.

Study & Research

The Trust supports continuing medical education. The post holder will fulfil the Royal College and GMC revalidation requirements. Research opportunities exist and encourage collaboration with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.

Audit

The post holder will participate in the Clinical Audit Programme and work with the Trust Clinical Audit Committee.
