A leading NHS healthcare provider in Greater London is seeking a Clinical Fellow (ST3+ Grade) to join their Cardiology Department for a year. This role offers comprehensive training in echocardiography and general cardiology, with opportunities for teaching, audit, and research experience. In collaboration with a diverse team, you'll be involved in both inpatient and outpatient care, participating in educational seminars without on-call commitments. Applications are open until 15 Dec 2025.
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow [ST3+ Grade] to commence in the Department of Cardiology at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust for twelve months in the first instance.
The post provides training in echocardiography and general adult cardiology. It also involves the post holder in the organisation and running of the weekly departmental educational seminar programme. Although the post does not have a recognised national training number, it offers the same exposure to cardiology as a numbered training post and excellent preparation for a career in cardiology or hospital medicine. Applicants will gain experience in teaching, audit & research. Previously, Homerton fellows have secured numbered training posts, research fellowships, and senior positions in the UK and overseas.
The department offers core and advanced echocardiography (transthoracic, contrast, transoesophageal and stress), CT coronary angiography and other diagnostic services such as ETT, ambulatory ECG & BP monitoring, transcranial Doppler scanning and portable ECG event monitoring. The department has close links with St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital for invasive cardiac investigation, device therapy and specialist arrhythmia clinics. Consultant cardiothoracic surgeons from St Bartholomew’s attend monthly JCC MDTs at Homerton.
The Cardiology Department includes eight Consultants (three with joint appointments at Barts), one Associate Specialist, three middle grades (including this advertised post) and six junior doctors (one IMT ST1/2, one clinical fellow ST1/2, one FY2 and three FY1s). Cardiovascular nursing and physiology staff also support the team.
The Clinical Fellow will work closely with Consultants, Associate Specialists, middle and junior grade staff and Nurse Specialists to support in‑patient and out‑patient care. Duties include covering clinical responsibilities when other staff are away and participating in the weekly departmental educational seminar programme.
Applicants should have worked in hospital medicine at the appropriate level and ideally have experience in cardiology. No on‑call commitment is required.
