Job description
Overview

Clinical Fellow in cardiology — Western General Hospital. Reference - 231113

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions, or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full (40 hours per week) post based in the Western General Hospital.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licensed Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

The Clinical Fellow post in Cardiology is aimed at FY2+ level i.e. those Doctors having completed the UK Foundation programme and having been assessed as "acute take safe" under supervision who are looking for further experience of cardiology and respiratory medicine. This may be to further pursue a career as a physician or to provide a professional development adjunct to any future clinical activity. We also welcome applications from more senior doctors than FY2 and roles may be negotiable dependent on experience.

The post is a mix of FY2 level duties in cardiology 0900-1700 M-F and out of hours cover on the FY1 rota (ward cover in the evening and at weekends 1:4).

The post includes participation in a rota including out of hours working including evening shifts (Till 2130hrs) and weekends (0900-2130hrs) although every effort is made to ensure healthy working lives and facilitate work-life balance. There is also support for application and interview process available for candidates in applying for training routes of entry into IMT, ACCS and GPST or any other required.

Responsibilities

  • Take part in cardiology duties with a mix of day-time and out-of-hours work; support ward cover as required.
  • Participate in a rota including evening shifts and weekends; contribute to patient care and handover.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities related to cardiology and respiratory medicine.
