Senior Clinical Fellow – Neuro Critical Care & Anaesthetics
BHRUT would like to invite applications for a full‑time Senior Clinical Fellow Doctor in Neuro Critical Care & Anaesthetics. This post is suited to Doctors working towards CESR/Portfolio pathway in Anaesthesia and/or Critical Care requiring sign off in Neurosciences. Dedicated in‑house SAS doctor support, GMC CESR assessors and additional modules sign‑off can be offered in Obstetrics, general Critical Care, general Anaesthesia and SIAs in Major General/Peri‑operative medicine.
Key Facilities & Services
- 12 dedicated neuro ICU beds caring for a population of 2 million, 3 dedicated neuro theatres at Queen’s, 1 neuro‑interventional radiology suite.
- 12 bedded dedicated NITU, level 1.5 area on the neurosurgical ward Sahara B and a HASU.
- 57 intensive care beds and 27 operating theatres split over two sites – Queen’s & King George Hospital.
- Two of the busiest emergency departments in London.
- All major specialties of large acute hospitals, including Cancer, Upper & Lower GI surgery (robotic), vascular & IR surgery, robotic gynaecology, oncological major pelvic with HIPEC, neurosurgery, complex spinal procedures, neuroradiology, orthopaedics, endocrine surgery.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the provision of a high‑quality, responsive neuro‑intensive care and neuro‑anaesthetic service to Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, in cooperation with colleagues in critical care, surgery and other clinical departments.
- Comply with the agreed job plan, reviewed annually: 1 in 8 on‑call rota with a mixture of long days, nights and standard days.
- Participate in an emergency out‑of‑hours resident on‑call cover for neuro‑critical care (or obstetrics or general anaesthesia).
- Contribute to postgraduate and continuing education for medical, nursing, technical staff and other allied professions.
- Deputise in the absence of departmental colleagues in cases of annual leave and, where practicable, short‑term sickness.
- Support the audit process at the Trust and, where appropriate, at a regional level; encourage and participate in appropriate research initiatives approved by the local Ethical Committee.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of current anaesthetic practice.
- Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and attend departmental meetings.
- Support the Divisional Director, Specialty Lead, Associate Medical Director and other professional colleagues in the management of the department to ensure high standards and the development of the service within the Clinical Governance framework.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Medical degree, registration with the GMC, and in the process of achieving CESR or Portfolio pathway in Anaesthesia and/or Critical Care.
- Sign‑off in Neurosciences.
- Experience or ability to undertake modules in Obstetrics, general Critical Care, general Anaesthesia, and SIAs in Major General/Peri‑operative medicine.
- Experience in research and audit is advantageous.
- Strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding children and adults at risk, and willingness to comply with the Trust’s safeguarding procedures.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including on‑call duties; part‑time hours may be discussed with the recruiting manager.
