Job summary

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly experienced Nurse Endoscopist to join our two-site Endoscopy Service at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. The role requires expertise in upper and/or lower GI endoscopy and a non-medical prescribing qualification, with a path to a training-the-trainers qualification.

The Endoscopy Service at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, talented, passionate and forward thinking Nurse Endoscopist to join our team. We have a busy and growing JAG accredited department which continues to expand following the planned opening of a new state of the art unit at Cumberland Infirmary this Spring.

As a Nurse Endoscopist, you will be already experienced in working in endoscopy services and additionally have a sound clinical management background. You will have experience in upper and/or lower endoscopy, and a passion to continually grow and develop. As well as having a non-medical prescribing qualification you will also have or be working towards a training the trainers qualification.

You will be an enthusiastic and inspirational team member who will work within the nurse endoscopist workforce and operational components of the service across the two sites (Cumberland Infirmary & West Cumberland Hospital), supported by the Clinical Lead, Matron & General Manager for endoscopy.

You will be a skilled communicator with a passion for patient care, education and staff development. You will place a high priority on maintaining a supportive and caring environment for patients and staff and on developing the highest standards of evidence based practice and achieving key quality metrics.

Qualifications
  • Registered health care practitioner with current registration
  • Educated to degree level in related health care subject or equivalent

  • Knowledge of lower and upper gastrointestinal and colorectal disease
  • Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent competence
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Evidence of Masters level study
  • Independent non-medical prescriber
Knowledge and Experience
  • Evidence of the acquisition of relevant skills associated with the role that meet with the JAG guideline requirements
  • Knowledge of Booking and Choice national framework and polices
  • Expert knowledge and awareness of upper and lower GI cancers and treatment
  • Knowledge of the NHS constitutional standards for cancer and routine pathways
  • Knowledge and experience to work as an autonomous clinical practitioner, with self-management of own caseload of patients.
  • Expert in a range of diagnostic and thereapeutic endoscopy techniques for both upper and lower GI
  • Teaching, mentoring and assessment
  • Implementing policy, SOPS and operational processes
  • Committed to quality assurance and delivering continued service improvement
  • Experience of clinical audit and research practice
  • Previous knowledge from working in the NHS or similar organisation as a nurse endoscopist
