Job summary

CHKS Limited seeks an Approved Clinical Coding Auditor to advance data quality by conducting coding quality audits and providing constructive feedback to teams across NHS and private healthcare assignments. The role blends remote coding from home with onsite work at client sites, travel expenses paid when needed, and collaboration with an experienced coding team.

You will contribute to AI-supported coding innovation and engage in ongoing professional development through regular remote training

Qualifications

• Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification is required.
• Approved Clinical Coding Auditor credential is essential.
• Recent attendance at a clinical coding refresher course is expected.
• Experience coding across a broad range of clinical specialties is preferred.
• Knowledge of Data Security and Protection Toolkit and patient confidentiality is required.
• Proactive approach to quality, audit, learning and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
• Strong communication skills to provide clear feedback to colleagues at different levels.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
• Interest in developing a career in clinical coding audit, leadership or management within CHKS.

Responsibilities

• Undertake coding quality audits and case-level reviews, using evidence-based assessment.
• Prepare clear feedback and audit reports to identify learning opportunities and improvements.
• Identify themes and opportunities to improve coding quality and consistency.
• Contribute to audit action plans and wider quality improvement activities.
• Support CHKS clinical coding services for NHS and private providers, including remote coding.
• Work across a blended role: auditing, remote coding from home, onsite coding when required, with travel expenses paid.
• Raise coding queries promptly with hospital leads or nominated contacts.
• Collaborate with Clinical Coding Team Leaders to resolve queries and share learning.
• Support a variety of coding assignments across diverse clients and specialties.
• Maintain completeness, timeliness, accuracy and consistency of clinical coding remotely or on client sites.
• Apply national clinical coding conventions and CHKS procedures.
• Represent CHKS professionally and provide high-quality coding and audit service.
• Attend remote clinical coding training workshops every two months for ongoing development.

What you will be doing

• Undertake coding quality audits, and case-level reviews, demonstrating confidence in current audit methodology and evidence-based assessment.
• Prepare clear, constructive feedback and audit reports that help individuals and teams understand strengths, learning opportunities and areas for improvement.
• Identify themes, trends and opportunities to improve coding quality, accuracy and consistency.
• Contribute to audit action plans and wider quality improvement activity across CHKS and our client organisations.
• Support the delivery of CHKS clinical coding services for NHS and private healthcare providers, including coding from patient records supplied by our clients.
• Work across a blended role that includes:
  • auditing;
  • remote coding from home;
  • onsite coding and auditing at a local private hospital when required, with travel expenses paid;
  • contribution to AI-supported clinical coding activity.
• Raise coding queries or source documentation issues with the onsite hospital NHS lead or other nominated contact in a clear and timely way.
• Work collaboratively with CHKS Clinical Coding Team Leaders and colleagues to resolve coding queries and share learning.
• Support a variety of coding assignments, giving you exposure to a broad range of clients, specialties and working environments.
• Maintain completeness, timeliness, accuracy and consistency of clinical coding, whether working remotely or on client sites.
• Apply national clinical coding conventions and procedures as defined by the Coding Classifications Service.
• Represent CHKS professionally and positively, providing a reliable, high-quality coding and audit service.
• Attend remote clinical coding training workshops every two months to support ongoing learning and professional development.
