Job summary

A healthcare provider in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a Clinic Technical Assistant & Co-ordinator to oversee clinic operations, manage appointments, provide technical support for contact lens and low vision aid services, and educate patients on lens use. Clinic Technical Assistant & Co-ordinator

University Hospitals of North Midlands is currently unable to provide sponsorship for this role. Individuals on a graduate visa are welcome to apply provided they have at least six months until the visa expires at the start of employment.

Applications are invited for the post of B3 0.4 wte Contact Lens & LVA Technical Assistant & Co‑ordinator. This role combines technical and administrative duties, with training available for either element.

Main duties of the job
  • Clinic coordination duties – word processing, answering telephone enquiries, organising and implementing outpatient waiting lists, making and altering appointments, and supporting other members of the Orthoptic team.
  • Organise waiting lists, clinics, appointments and timetables to ensure Trust and departmental targets and standards are met and maintained.
  • Maintain and order stocks and supplies, using the ELFS system for ordering and GRNing.
  • Provide technical support for the CL/LVA service, including topographical scanning, anterior segment imaging, anterior segment OCTs and other diagnostic tests as required.
  • Teach patients the insertion and removal of contact lenses and advise them on adapting to, wearing and caring for contact lenses.
  • Support the LVA Specialist in teaching and guiding patients with the use of LVAs.

Essential Qualifications
  • Good standard of general education/training, including numeracy and literacy skills to enable work at equivalent to NVQ/SVQ level III.
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems.
  • Previous clinic coordination experience, e.g. managing waiting lists, use of Careflow & iPortal.
  • Optometric/ophthalmic qualifications.

  • Good written and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with situations in a sensitive manner.
