The role of the Electrical Clerk of Works is to be the subject matter expert on all areas of electrical works across the Royal Mail Estate. Royal Mail has approximately 1565 building across the United Kingdom all of which that need continuous maintenance as well as refurbishment. In addition, however limited, the company does undertake in new building work, all of which, new and existing needing continuous attention from this role.

About the role
  • To work as a key member of the building construction deployment team, both leading your pillar (Electrical) whilst integrating with the other pillars to deliver projects safely, to time and on budget.
  • To use your experience and competence on a daily basis to lead, facilitate and deliver all of the electrical works related projects to a high quality.
  • Prepare regular site reports and maintain accurate records of progress, tests, and inspections.
  • Monitor contractor performance and quality of electrical installations, including lighting, fire alarms, power distribution, emergency lighting, BMS, and other building services.
  • Specification Review & Continuous Improvement - Review specifications and stay updated on industry best practices, and advise on updates to national standards and requirements.
  • Manage, coordinate and recruit into the team skilled tradespersons to resource all of the electrical projects, appointing appropriate levels of supervision.
  • Lead your teams to deliver, above all, safely, making sure we comply with the companies H&S requirements as well as any appropriate CDM standards at all times.
About you
  • 18th Edition wiring regulations.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations (2391-52)
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Installation.
  • Sound understanding of current UK regulations, including BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), and Health & Safety legislation.
  • A minimum of a Supervisor CSCS card or SSSTS qualification, SMSTS is preferred.
  • Membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) or working towards. (Desirable but not essential).
