NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern is Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.

The Medical Day Unit (MDU) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Clerical Officer. The post holder will provide essential clerical support to clinical and nursing staff, helping to coordinate their workload and ensure the smooth running of the unit.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Booking appointments for IBD nurse-led clinics, gastroenterology nurse-led clinics, and patients attending for haematology tests, infusions, and the haemochromatosis clinic.
  • Managing inpatient and outpatient waiting lists, ensuring referrals are processed promptly and appointments are scheduled in line with clinical priorities and waiting time guarantees.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for patients attending the Medical Day Unit, delivering a friendly and efficient reception service.
  • Supporting the team with general administrative duties to maintain high standards of patient care and service delivery.
Applicants should have:
  • Previous administration experience, ideally within the NHS or a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with confidence in dealing with patient enquiries.
  • A sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Trakcare would be advantageous.
