Worksop College and Ranby House is seeking a Middle Leadership candidate to drive high-quality Science teaching and learning. You will plan and audit a hands-on science programme, link with STEM workshops and British Science initiatives, and lead staff to deliver an engaging curriculum across the centre.

This Job Description covers the main responsibilities of this particular role, which are in addition to other Teaching & Learning duties, roles and responsibilities. The role holder may be asked to carry out other activities commensurate with this Job Description from time to time. STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain and promote the mission, vision, values and ethos of the school. LIAISON WITH PARENTS: Effective communication with parents/carers and associated departments is a vital part of this role. To take reasonable steps to maintain cordial relations with members of the parent body, responding to requests for information and assistance. Attend Parent Consultation evenings and other afterschool events to feedback, progress, targets and planned curriculum coverage/topics with pupils' parents PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: To take up the opportunity for continuous professional development through self-directed reading, courses and in-service training and maintain a good level of the latest teaching practices and use of technology. To take part in the school arrangements for staff performance review, to complete the required documentation and seek to fulfil individual targets agreed as part of the appraisal and performance management system. MIDDLE LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: To take responsibility for planning, implementing and assessing an appropriate programme of study for Science, ensuring there are plenty of opportunities for children to complete practical tasks to experience 'hands-on' learning, rather than completing worksheets. Science should be inquisitive with children inspired to find out and test their understanding and ideas wherever possible. Exploring different ways of delivering a thorough and comprehensive Science curriculum, linking with STEM workshops, British Science week and other elements of the subject that can be used to engage pupils and enhance their learning. Complete subject audits and update development plans for your subject area to ensure the delivery of Science is a reflective and progressive process. Lead by example in your planning and delivery of Science and challenge and support staff where necessary to ensure their knowledge, understanding of Science-based topics and success criteria is at the highest possible standard. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with all staff. This includes senior school (Worksop College) staff, teachers from other schools, non-teaching staff and different professional bodies. Work alongside other departments to co-ordinate opportunities for Science links in other lessons, trips, visits and themes. Opportunities should be exploited and included within planning across the entire curriculum. This includes the wider curriculum, such as Chapel services, assemblies and school events. Review and update relevant subject policies with associated staff. Prepare and support the delivery of contentious/sensitive topics, such as; sex and relationship education, drugs and alcohol use, ensuring these are in line with the school policy, well communicated and delivered to the children in an appropriate and consistent manner, giving them the best possible environment to learn facts and base their own opinions on such information. Lead training and inset sessions to develop staff awareness and strategies to implement new initiatives/legislation on your subject area. Promote all aspects of Science (and STEM) among the school and wider community, using school publications, approved social media sites and the school's marketing department. Raise the profile of Ranby House, by organising experiences for pupils in our wider community and liaising with other groups to encourage the use of Ranby's facilities.
