Job description

Class Teacher - Complex Needs Class - Woodburn Primary School - MID07675

Fixed Term until 15th August 2027

Full time - 35 hours per week

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 31 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 4 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 50 children to our largest secondary with over 1600 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 2 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Woodburn Primary is a large and well-established community focussed primary school that serves the Woodburn area of Dalkeith. Following an extension completed in October 2024, the school gained 9 classrooms, a STEM room, additional gym hall, improved outdoor play spaces and a multi-use games area. In January 2025, the school also gained a Complex Needs Provision.

Woodburn is committed to providing a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment for all. We strive to equip our children with the skills they will require to become Successful learners, Confident Individuals, Independent Learners and Responsible Citizens. We place considerable value on trust, respect, nurture, equality and equity.

The successful post holder will work as part of the team supporting children in our Complex Needs classes. They must have a strong understanding, and experience of working with children who have Additional Support Needs (ASN). They must be able to demonstrate the ability to build trusted relationships with children and work well as part of a team ensuring learners are happy, settled and have their needs met. They should be committed to developing their knowledge and skills through undertaking additional professional learning.

Interviews for the above post will take place on Thursday 1

st October.
