Job description

A brand new SEN school in Forest Row are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Class Teacher to join their team, providing high-quality education for children and young people aged 7-19 with special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. As a Class Teacher, you will play a central role in supporting pupils to achieve their potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, plan, and deliver creative and engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of your pupils.
  • Use your skills as a Class Teacher to foster students' personal development, independence, and emotional resilience.
  • Lead, guide, and support teaching assistants to provide consistent learning support across your class.
  • Monitor student progress, record achievements, and report outcomes to parents and senior leaders as part of your role as a Class Teacher.
  • Coordinate person-centered learning programs, ensuring each student receives a curriculum that reflects their abilities, aspirations, and needs.
  • Apply specialist teaching strategies for pupils with ASC and SEMH, adapting approaches to overcome barriers to learning as a Class Teacher.
  • Support students in practical, experiential learning, including subjects such as mathematics, English, science, ICT, land-based activities, craft, and movement.
  • Promote positive behaviour through a supportive and structured environment, embedding clear expectations and boundaries.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to learning and development.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including assemblies, seasonal festivals, and community events, as a proactive Class Teacher.
  • Undertake safeguarding and health and safety responsibilities, ensuring all pupils are safe and supported.
