Steamship Mutual is seeking an experienced P&I claims handler to join the Americas Syndicate. You will manage a portfolio of claims for cruise and ferry Members, providing timely, commercially focused advice and support across North America and Europe.

The role requires strong maritime insurance knowledge, excellent communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a small team. Hybrid working arrangements are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience handling personal injury matters within a P&I Club, marine insurer, law firm, shipowner or similar maritime environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication with attention to detail.
• Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with Members and colleagues.

Responsabilités

• Manage a portfolio of P&I claims within the Cruise & Ferry Syndicate, providing timely support to Members.
• Investigate, manage, and resolve a range of P&I claims with stakeholders such as Members, correspondents, lawyers and surveyors.
• Maintain strong relationships with Members and deliver high-quality service.
• Identify loss prevention opportunities and emerging claims trends.
• Keep electronic claim files up to date and compliant with procedures.
• Contribute to improvements in claims processes and systems.
• Prepare articles and updates for Member communications.
• Develop technical knowledge of P&I insurance, maritime law and cruise/ferry sector.
• Undertake other duties aligned with role responsibilities.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a portfolio of P&I claims within the Cruise & Ferry Syndicate, providing timely and commercially focused support to Members
• Investigate, manage, and resolve a range of P&I claims, liaising with Members, correspondents, lawyers, surveyors, and other stakeholders as required
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Members, delivering a high standard of service and support
• Identify and communicate loss prevention opportunities and emerging claims trends
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic claim files and correspondence in accordance with Club procedures
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of claims processes, systems, and working practices
• Support the preparation of articles, technical updates, and other content for Member communications and Club publications
• Develop and maintain technical knowledge of P&I insurance, maritime law, and the cruise and ferry sector through ongoing learning and professional development
• Undertake any other duties or projects required in line with the responsibilities of the role

Person Specification:

• Demonstrable experience managing personal injury matters, gained within a P&I Club, marine insurer, law firm, shipowner, or similar maritime environment
• Degree educated or equivalent professional experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with Members and colleagues
• Excellent written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Well organised, proactive, and able to effectively manage and prioritise a varied workload
• Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels and contribute positively within a small team environment
