Job description
NHS GRAMPIAN
SPECIALIST DOCTOR IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE
12 MONTH FIXED TERM
32 HOURS PER WEEK
REF: CK226215

NHS Grampian has a thrilling opportunity for a highly skilled, enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Doctor to join our teams working across the Emergency Departments (ED) of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. The post will be 32 hours.

We would expect the candidates to integrate into our current established teams serving the Grampian region, stretching from the Cairngorm Mountains to the North Sea oil rigs providing emergency medicine service in a modern City and rural setting. This recruitment will increase our Senior tier staffing with an opportunity to be part of a busy tertiary level Major Trauma Centre which serves both adult and paediatric patients.

The successful candidate will not only play a key role in the continuing development of the Departments of Emergency Medicine in the region’s acute hospitals, serving a total population of approximately 500,000 with in excess of 100,000 ED attendances per annum, but also help in our endeavour to enhance services for the local populations, through innovation, technology, collaboration and governance, with a cohesive regional leadership.

We are committed to providing a healthy work-life balance and promoting an environment which will attract and retain high quality colleagues. Interested candidates can enjoy the prospect of a choice of Country or City living in beautiful surroundings.

Grampian provides the perfect solution to all interests and lifestyles. Aberdeen has one of the most buoyant economies in the UK outside of London and offers all the attractions of any major City. Aberdeenshire and Moray boast many picturesque towns and villages within easy commuting distance and provides access to an enormous range of outdoor pursuits, ranging from fishing to skiing. There are excellent transport links across and with adjoining regions with Edinburgh and Glasgow, less than 3 hours by train and the ever-expanding Aberdeen and Inverness airports having multiple flights daily to London (1 hour) and many other destinations across the UK and Europe.

The post holder will join a substantive multi-disciplinary team and will be well supported working in modern, friendly and well-equipped hospitals in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital which are affiliated with the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon’s University. Across all sites we have a modern teaching capacity with further educational and conference facilities located in centres available to the successful candidate. There is an expectation that the successful applicant will participate in regional governance and teaching.

At Aberdeen Royal Infirmary the Emergency Department is based in the Emergency Care Centre (ECC), a modern purpose-designed facility to support integrated Unscheduled Care Service and Emergency Medicine. It is the recognised Major Trauma Centre for the North of Scotland. It includes dedicated areas for major and minor presentations, a resuscitation room, dedicated diagnostics, assessment and observation facilities. The ED of Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital is a recognised Paediatric Major Trauma Centre and tertiary referral centre for the Highland and Island boards. Medical staff work across both emergency departments, which are co-joined, alongside a dedicated paediatric nursing team.

Depending on the Doctors clinical commitment, we expect the successful applicant to work on the Senior Rota, which will be limited to a maximum of 1:4 weekend working and would include night shift working. We are looking for a Specialist to work up to an 8 PA contract on a flexible annualised basis. Detailed job plan will be negotiable upon successful application and interview.

This Post Will Allow The Successful Candidate The Opportunity To Develop Individual Interests Pertinent To The Local Facility. These Could Include But Are Not Limited To

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
  • Major Trauma Care Delivery
  • Pre-hospital care
  • Imaging Diagnostics
  • Critical Care & Anaesthesia
  • Varieties of surgical & medical interests
  • External Agency Liaison and Collaboration
