Qualifications

• Knowledge of civils elements: chambers, cable routes, retaining walls, vegetation clearance.
• Ability to prepare task briefs, ITPs and material take-offs from drawings.
• Proficient with setting out and surveying using GPS and robotic total stations.

Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Civils Project Engineer to support railway infrastructure works across the route between Doncaster and Newcastle.

This is a site-based, delivery-focused role for a practical Project Engineer who is confident working directly with construction teams and managing day-to-day civils activities. We are looking for a Project Engineer rather than a Senior Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day delivery of railway civils works across multiple sites and local project offices.
• Work closely with site managers, supervisors and construction teams to coordinate activities and resolve engineering issues.
• Support ancillary civils works, including:
• Lineside vegetation clearance and de-vegetation.
• Chambers and associated civils installations.
• Cable route and route infrastructure works.
• Small retaining walls and associated structures.
• Cable pulling and associated infrastructure activities.
• Prepare task briefs, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and relevant site documentation.
• Produce material take-offs from engineering drawings.
• Interpret drawings, specifications and technical information to support construction.
• Carry out setting out and surveying using robotic total stations and GPS equipment.
• Undertake site checks to verify dimensions, levels and construction requirements.
• Identify and resolve technical issues, escalating concerns where necessary.
• Maintain accurate site records and ensure works meet quality, safety and project requirements.
• Respond proactively to changing site priorities and support programme delivery.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as a Civils Project Engineer within rail infrastructure.
• Practical experience delivering rail civils construction works on site.
• Experience working directly with construction teams and site management.
• Knowledge of ancillary civils, including chambers, cable routes, retaining walls and vegetation clearance.
• Ability to prepare task briefs, ITPs and material take-offs from drawings.
• Confidence using robotic total stations and GPS setting-out and surveying equipment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and resolve day-to-day technical issues.
• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Relevant rail industry competencies and safety qualifications.
