The Opportunity

This is a key role for an ambitious civils professional who wants to lead the full lifecycle of civil engineering delivery — from pre-construction through to handover. You will be the driving force behind Section 278 works, earthworks, drainage, foundations, and complex utility infrastructure coordination, playing a pivotal part in shaping the success of a high-profile development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Section 278 highway works, liaising with local authorities and managing adoption and audit processes.
  • Manage large-scale earthworks including cut/fill, compaction, and compliance/testing to specification.
  • Supervise drainage and foundation works, ensuring full design accuracy and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with utility providers (electricity, water, gas, telecoms) from early design stages through to installation and final connection.
  • Ensure off-site and on-site utility infrastructure aligns with the main civils package.
  • Review drawings/specifications to identify value engineering and design improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with design consultants and stakeholders to optimise cost, time, and quality outcomes.
  • Monitor progress, budgets, and QA processes; maintain accurate site records including ITPs, QA documentation, RAMS, and as-builts.
  • Manage subcontractors, plant, and suppliers, maintaining strong working relationships across the project team.
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental compliance at all stages.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven track record as a Civils Site Manager on large industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of Section 278 works and local authority adoption procedures.
  • Well-rounded experience across earthworks, drainage, foundations, and civils infrastructure packages.
  • Demonstrable utility coordination experience with statutory undertakers.
  • Ability to review technical drawings and implement practical design or value-engineering solutions.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercially aware with a clear understanding of programme and cost impacts.
  • Familiar with QA systems, site documentation, and construction processes.
