Civils Design Lead (Freelance) | 📍 Croydon (Hybrid - 3 days/week in office) | 💼 Outside IR35 Contract | 💰 Up to £60/hour (total invoice)

The Opportunity

We're working with a major engineering consultancy seeking a Civils Design Lead to support the delivery of water sector design projects from their Croydon office. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of multidisciplinary design packages, lead coordination between disciplines, and ensure high-quality project delivery across major UK water frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage civil design delivery on water infrastructure and non-infrastructure schemes.
• Oversee and review detailed designs, drawings, calculations, and reports.
• Coordinate with internal teams across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
• Support project planning, scheduling, and resource management to meet deadlines.
• Engage directly with clients and contractors to ensure design quality and compliance.
• Promote health, safety, sustainability, and quality in all design outputs.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians.

Requirements

Essential

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive experience in civils design delivery for the UK water sector.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure and non-infrastructure design principles.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams.
• Competence in AutoCAD, Revit, and a working knowledge of BIM.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• Available to work freelance / outside IR35, with 3 days/week in Croydon.

Desirable

• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (ICE).
• Experience working under Design & Build (D&B) contracts.
• Familiarity with sustainable design practices and digital delivery methods
