Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design and co-ordinate civil designs for projects from initial feasibility to detail design.
  • Responsible for the delivery of design and compliance with technical standards.
  • Provide advice on constructability and sequencing of civil designs.

Skills

About the role

Balfour Beatty Power T&D are currently recruiting a Civils Design Engineer (Substations) to join their team in Derby.

Role purpose

To work with project team, designers and subcontractors through the design phase to deliver the safe and suitable scope of works in line with the project objectives.

Take responsibility for the design delivery and design suitability for works across Power T&D construction projects. Provide advice as to the constructability and sequencing of civil design for Power T&D business principally around Substations but including Overhead Lines and Cabling.

What you’ll be doing
Key Accountabilities

To undertake the design and co-ordination of civil designs required on projects, from the initial feasibility assessment to detail design, installation and final removal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reinforced Concrete design and detailing compliant to required Client & national technical standards (BS/Eurocodes/ENA)
  • Highways and access design works
  • Analysis of existing foundations
  • Construction site layouts and CDM implementation
  • Assist in the management of the tender process, understand and interpret scope of works, provide advice and opinion
  • Undertake check function for design calculations performed by other engineering colleagues.

Who we’re looking for
Skills Required
  • Degree level education or equivalent with formal training in civil engineering and/or geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong, proven post-graduate experience in the civil engineering industry.
  • Experience of the supervision of sub-consultants or subcontractors.
  • Proven experience of the design of civil engineering works.
  • Strong, proven experience of the management of design of civil or geotechnical engineering works.
  • Experience in the design and checking of temporary works for civil engineering projects.
  • IT Literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CAD).
Desirable Skills
  • Chartered Engineer preferred with either the ICE, CGeol or IStructE.
  • Experience in the design and checking of temporary works for civil engineering projects.
  • Experience of substation structural components.
  • Experience of drainage design and water management.
