Job summary

McLaughlin and Harvey is offering a paid 12-month Undergraduate Placement in Civil Engineering in the UK. You will join a team of skilled engineers and benefit from a mentorship approach designed to give you practical experience and progression onto the graduate scheme after graduation.

Your weekly tasks will cover site compliance with SHEQ policies, setting out on site to contractor drawings, progress reporting, risk communication, maintaining daily records, and coordinating with

Qualifications

• Relevant bachelor’s or HNC/HND students in Civil Engineering or related disciplines Degree
• Open to living away from home
• Excellent communication & negotiation skills
• High levels of organisational skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Excellent numerical, IT and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to work on initiative with minimum supervision
• Hold a full UK driving licence

Responsibilities

• Ensure all site activities are undertaken in compliance with SHEQ policies and procedures
• Assist with setting out on site to the contract drawings
• Produce weekly / monthly progress reports as appropriate
• Communicate programme risks to the management team and maintain records for contractual correspondence
• Ensure accurate daily records including site diary are maintained and communicated for labour, material and plant, including subcontractors
• Communicate policies and procedures to subcontractors and ensure these are observed
• Keep management apprised of variations to the works and any commercial/contractual implications

What to expect:

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Assist with and ensure setting out is done on site to the contract drawings.
• Produce weekly / monthly progress reports as appropriate
• Communicate programme risks to the management team and maintain records for contractual correspondence
• Ensure accurate daily records including site diary are maintained and communicated for labour, material and plant, including subcontractors
• Communicate McLaughlin and Harvey policies and procedures to subcontractors and ensure these are being observed
• Ensure the management team are kept appraised of variations to the works and any matter likely to have commercial or contractual implications

How will I spend an average working week?

You’ll be putting into practice what you’ve learned at university, working on a range of high‑profile projects and playing a key role in delivering projects on time and under budget.
