Job summary

Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd is a family-run civil engineering and plant hire group operating across the South-West of England. We are looking for a Construction Project Planner to develop robust programmes for groundworks and civil projects, monitor progress, and provide regular reporting to senior management.

You will work closely with Pre-Construction, Commercial, Contracts and Site teams to identify risks, optimise sequencing, and support timely, budget-conscious delivery.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and methodologies.
• Experience producing and managing construction programmes.
• Proficient in MS Project, Asta Powerproject and Primavera.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret drawings and technical information.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive project programmes using industry-standard planning software.
• Produce NEC compliant programmes and recovery plans.
• Monitor progress against baselines and update with site progress data.
• Prepare weekly/monthly programme reports for senior management.
• Support commercial teams with extension of time submissions and planning input for bids.
• Attend site visits and coordinate with site teams for complex packages.
