Job summary

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) manages Scotland's ferry ports and harbour infrastructure, seeking enthusiastic civil engineers to deliver safe, efficient facilities.

You will lead multidisciplinary project teams, manage capital and refurbishment works from initiation to completion, assess engineering solutions, and work with communities to minimise disruption while meeting HSE and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing civil engineering projects and works.
  • Experience with engineering consultants and contractors to achieve outcomes.
  • Knowledge of H&S and regulatory requirements in civil/structural/geotechnical fields.
  • Background in marine engineering is advantageous, NEC contracts helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Manage development, procurement and implementation of capital/refurbishment projects for harbour infrastructure from initiation to completion.
  • Deliver project management, control budgets, assess risk and ensure on-time delivery within budget.
  • Lead and support project teams including consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.

The role

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) owns vessels and harbour infrastructure necessary for vital ferry services serving many communities throughout Scotland. We have a strategic mandate to continue improving Scotland's ferry network. We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative individuals to join us to support the development and maintenance of safe, efficient, reliable ports and harbours that serve Scotland's islands.

We are recruiting for Civil Engineers to help deliver our portfolio of works adopting new technologies to upgrade facilities to accommodate new vessels, maintain existing infrastructure, and construct new ferry terminals.

The role

Manage and support the development, procurement and implementation of capital and refurbishment projects and works for harbour infrastructure from initiation to completion to meet project objectives and business requirements.

Deliver effective construction project management, managing risk, issues, change, decisions and benefits realisation, in line with the overall project plan. Control project budgets and financial reporting to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to budget.

Lead and support project teams including consultants, contractors, internal stakeholders, and the port/ferry operator to deliver projects and solutions.

Propose, review and evaluate engineering solutions for CMAL ports.

Work with communities and external stakeholders to understand their requirements and minimise disruption during project delivery.

Manage projects and works to comply with legislative and regulatory issues, including health & safety, procurement and licensing and consents for construction.

Experience in managing, co-ordinating, and supervising civil engineering projects and works.

Experience of working with engineering consultants and contractors to achieve required outcomes.

Dedicated team player, who is capable of building strong, effective relationships both internally and externally.

Recent experience of working as an engineering project manager or project management environment.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of H&S and other legal, statutory and technical requirements within civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.

A background in marine engineering and use of NEC contracts would be advantageous, but we can help you gain this experience if required.

A minimum of a civil engineering/construction, or other relevant qualification, at HND level, exemplifying academic qualification or appropriate work-based experience to meet the requirements for registration with the Engineering Council at Incorporated Engineer level and be working towards this (this must be fully demonstrated in your application).

The work environment
